10 Weevils signed up for last nights game vs the first place Back Door Pub, but only 7 showed. Is it the frightful stare of this A league team that causes our bones to quiver before this match up. Or could it be that we have played this team like 4 times this season already. Have we not taken our share of beatings yet? I am thinking maybe we should get in a league where we can have 80 goals for and 10 against all season… wait, we are not a team who relies on ego. We are not a team of ringers who place ourselves in a league where we are sure of every win. We are not a team who cannot face defeat every once in a while. But we are a team who enjoys laying into an opponent every now and again.

Now how do we overcome some of these opponents who feel like playing in a non competitive environment? Get better players? Practice? I think not! We should just bitch and complain until nothing happens and then quit, like another team we know of. Maybe we should write it off on the long drive we have to make, or the late game times. If I remember correctly, the Weevils of old never had a problem with losing, it was our forte. Have we lost sight of the meaning of all of this? Is it not a release from every day life? A way to get away from the stress one night a week and have some Za with friends after a hard fought battle.

We need to rethink our direction and give some life back into the Weevil Nation. Our C league team is 1 and 8, but they still show up 18 strong for every game, ready to drink some cold, refreshing beverages afterwards. We should live for the after game rituals where we boast of our great pass, or shot which glanced off the post in the first period. Or have a laugh about one of Pinna’s questionable remarks to an opponent during the game. We could even bitch about the refs.

Lets pull this team back together and look forward to play-offs.
