Pinna Tips His Hat in 5-4 Shootout Loss

The crisp night was young and the Weevils showed with a full squad now that Skatch and Myze have returned from the SL. Weber was still not back and our only groupie to show looks like a bulldog with a poodle haircut. Pslow was not gracing us with his presence, so we brought down a great fellow from the senior league, Craig. He did not swing his sack at anyone or smell like a 6 day old chocolate milk left in your car in July. And he was a Mongol, huge.

The first period started out bad when in the first shift no one decided to cover the guy in the slot and they scored under Mongol. As the first line, Pinna-Zarby-Todd decided to step up and play to their title and put our first goal in to tie the game at 1 a piece. The Blues kept pounding away on our defense and added another goal to their tally. John decided to get our first penalty back fresh off of his suspension for getting pummeled in the face. A kneeing minor for a nice 2 minutes stay at our luxurious spa about 12 feet north of your home bench. Toward the end of the period, the ref singled out Myze and Diddle for not having proper chin straps under their helmets. I think he did this because Myze was not getting any penalties and the just need something to grasp at. Well, Myze taped up his helmet and headed back out to the ice and Diddle changed his clothes and joined the bench as the hard ass coach. After this escapade, Pinna realized that no one else was going to do it, so he says “I will” with a great goal short side. That guy really can skate, when there is a scoring opportunity.

We start the second period with Diddle screaming obsenities over BMoore’s back and telling Sattora to quit bitching about shying away from a puck because he thinks he is going to get hit. Pinna steps up again and puts the hat trick away. Hats shower onto the rink from the crowd causing madcow to fall over himself and he landed, squishing three of his utters. As Sattora-San skates to the bench, the puck kareems off his skate right to a speeding Teno who rips one from the blue line and through the net. It is just amazing what he can do when he is not circling like a vulture over a half rotted carcass. Myze got his first bull shite penalty when an opposing player lifted his stick and the ref called the high sticking.

The third period started and ended in a 4-4 tie. There was no scoring, but there was A LOT of penalties. Let me see
NEIL MYERS - (Interference Minor), 2 min
Todd Huestis - (Holding Minor), 2 min
JEREMY BECKETT - (Roughing Minor), 2 min
CHRIS SATTORA - (Hooking Minor), 2 min
John Robertiello - (Roughing Minor), 2 min

We played the whole period short handed! So the shootout starts and the ref rudely adds that no one that was in the box at the end of the game can participate in the shootout. This kills Sattora and the Weevils because he had to be due! Teno is our only hope but hits the post and Pinna cannot match their lucky slide under our minder.

After the game the Weevils decide to order a few sheets and send Diddle and Universal in to get it. The whole time we were in there, we were berated and brow beat by the Ringers who had taken over the establishment. They started telling us horrible things about our team mates and that our team mates were plotting against us. With the mix of the extreme heat inside the bar and the ringers pungent body odor, we were affected by the toxic combination. But Diddle snapped out of their trance and forced himself back out into the cold to deliver his fellow bugs the sheet and a half of piping hot pizza. Universal was not so lucky as he was the reason that half of that pizza was gone. He must have been held down and raped by his former team. I did not take any slices of that last pizza, who knows what they did to it!

  1. I think we played pretty shitty all in all last night, and still should have won. Aside from some great looks from Zarby and Todd, and a few lucky positioning plays, I didnt do all that much. I couldnt skate worth a damn, like 99% of the team we played. We still kept it close, even without our own goalie (thanks for coming out Craig). If we could keep the penalties to a minimum, like under 13 a game, we would dominate that league, there is no doubt in my mind. I commened everyone for sticking it out and playing hard for the last 2 periods though. We are clicking well and i like our chances. PS, did anyone actually see the puck that Teno scored with, that re-defined the term laser beam, nice rocket T-man. I also didnt miss Pslows balls or hebrew culture at all.

  2. Nice comment pinna & all true…on the bright side we can at least we’re getting better at penalty killing

PS I’m not sure what B-Moore charged you guys for your pizza but he must of either made a nice profit or gave you the impression we where treating. Either case you were mistaken and if think I will feel guilty about eating 3 slices (.333% less of a slice than my financial contribuiton toward the pies), you’ll have to keep trying!

  3. Uni….you’re apologies mean nothing here….but you’ll have the chance to redeem yourself on the ice next week…pay us back on the ice with your blood, sweat and tears!!

  4. I definitely agree with Pinet’s comments above, we didn’t play very well last game and the past few games we seem to be forgetting how we changed things around from earlier in the season. Here are the things I noticed last night that can be easily fixed as long as each of us is committed.
    1. We came out flat last night against a team that I think we thought we would surely beat. I think we seen that they only had a couple guys on the bench and decided we only needed to give a B or C effort to win the game. Obviously, with 4 goals scored in the first period we see how that turned out. This seems to be a trend for our team of starting out slow and then picking it up once we go down a goal, or 4. Let’s make it a point to skate hard from first shift to the last shift every game.
    2. Our forward lines need to commit to taking shorter shifts. We have been playing with only 2 forward lines for some time now, so everybody should be happy with their ice time. The fact that the other team last night only had 2-3 subs should have been a huge advantage for us, but instead both of our lines stayed out on the ice during each shift for far too long and it was obvious when guy’s were tired. Let’s try to limit shifts to 1:00 to 1:30 minutes in the future.
    3. We need to start backchecking, forechecking, and skating hard to loose pucks. It’s here where games are won and lost. I think we can all think of an example where a hard working team has beat a far more talented team, and I know for sure we can’t win in the future on talent alone. This is also the result of long shifts.
    4. I know I’m beating dead horse but the penalties really hurt our chances of taking control of last night’s game in the third period. Obviously, try not to take as many penalties, but at this point I really think we need to start kissing the refs asses. Believe me, I know I’m definitely the worst at jawing at the refs, but that definitely has got to stop. Starting before last night’s game I made a commitment to myself not to say a word to the refs. We’re only hurting ourselves by questioning their calls, bitching about calls, etc. I think it would help us in the long run to not say a word the entire game to them, and shake their hands after the game, tell them “good game”, and skate off.

In conclusion, if we play smart and hard, we can beat anybody in this league without a doubt. We definitely have enough talent throughout our roster.

  5. The shire makes a great point with defensive zone coverage. Our fowards (not pointing fingers at any one person or line, because I am just as guilty as everyone else is) need to get back and help out in our end. Most of us, if not all, tend to look at our opposition’s lack of talent, and loaf back at center ice and count on the defense to hit us with a home run pass so we can score the easy goals. This is putting our defensemen in a tough spot, and not helping out our goaltender. I am not going on a limb here saying that I think we have 6 of the top 10 offensive players in the league on our team, and have plenty of talent to start a rush from our own end. This is especially true next week. The Rimmers are, in my opinion, the best, most talented team, we play, and we have to come in with a defensive mind set in our own end. B-moore, Teno, Satora, Zarby, Todd H., me, and sometime universal are all talented and fast enough to play strong in our own end and still light the lamp. But I am very impressed with how we have turned it around this season. Good job defense at making good decisions and recovering from mistakes, and lets try and limit our time in the box. It is good to play with a bunch of guys who want to win, and I know we can do just that.

  6. DIDDLE THANKS FOR THE WRITE up. I had been constipated all morning but once i read this story I had a very impressive dump –on company time too. I especially liked the part about pizza. This the year of the pig. Any chinese on the team??? Don’t Teno and Pinna look a bit mongoloid? Cant wait for the Ringers saga. Is B Moore cooking corned beef for St Patty’s day Erin go braugh

  7. Probably the best picture for the write up. Still laughing. Need some spinners on those bad boys.

  8. I was thinking maybe some neon lights underneath….
