Casa Blincos Derails the Weevil Crazy Train
The Weevil Nation News Department got wind that this late game (11:15) was going to be problematic as early as 5 minutes after last week’s late game!! With only 5 skaters confirmed to play as of Tuesday morning, Operation “Get Numbers” went into effect around midday to secure at least one sub!! Feelers went out to the Weevil “C” team and 3 true Weevil patriots were able to help out. Timmy “Not” Nau, Chris “Hunt And” Peck, and Joe “Not In My” Earhart came out to help the eventual lost cause.
With only 9 skaters to start the night, tensions were high and lines were jacked up. Welcome to Weevil Hockey!! Luckily, the newly named Blincos team (formerly Casa Linga’s “We Should Be Playing For Finland” team) could only muster enough players themselves to match our squad. The hockies started out well enough. Hesitancy and conservative play seemd to be the theme for the night and this was obvious early on. Everyone had apparently prepared themselves for a no-sub game prior to arrival and were unable to shake that mindset. With not a whole lot of offense, the Weevils went down by one early on a cheese goal but were able to convert toward the end of the first on a sweet shot by Teno in his patented tights and triple lutz moves…he stuck the landing!! Another offensive rush by the Blinks snared a second goal for a 2-1 lead after the first.
The second period was much of the same conservative play by the Weevs, who were still trying to figure out their newly formed lines. The Blinks had plenty o’ oppurtunities, but Pee Slow was stellar and able to keep them contained. B Moore final showed up to the rink midway through the second and blames global warming on his tardiness. Now with a full defensive squad, Sattora San gets fed up with the defensive strategy midway through the second and takes it upon himself to embarrass the Blinks D on a coast-to-coaster. With everyone behind him and only the net to beat, the Grand Master pulls the puck back out of the crease one last time to taunt the bewildered D….reliable sources were said to have overheard “Psych!!” as Sattora created some origame swans in front of the net before tieing it up at 2-2. Unfortunately, the period didn’t end there as one of the Blinks puts an Alexander Olvechkin move on Mad Cow and Pee Slow in front of the net…his back to the goal, he slides the puck between his and Slow’s legs and Pee Slow never sees it…pretty impressive actually, but it did sting a little!! 3-2…bad guys on top. To top off the end of the period, Pee Slow takes a delay-of-game penalty for not playing the puck out….what?!?!?…the sea was angry that day my friend!!
The third period sees some old school Weevil penalties throughout, courtesy of primarily Dan “Yo Mama” Pinet and even Timmy V getting a tour of the box…however the “king” is not a part of any of that, as Neil stays penalty free until late in the period….and even that was a cheesy interference call. The Weevs stay in the game, but with no real offensive prowess. A late goal from a bad Blinks shot off of a Mad Cow blade (upper corner I’ll have you know!!) leaves the Weevs with a 4-2 deficit and that’s how it ends.
All and all not a bad result given the weak numbers and the team we were facing, but we could have done without the penalties. If we had our typical lines out there, the result would have been completely different. Special props go out to: 1.) the “C” team guys who made deals with the devil in order to attend, 2.) B Moore for only hitting the snooze button twice, 3.) Pinet for biting his tongue in the third and refraining from going after the opposing players extended family as well in his rambling obscenitylaced, 10-minute misconduct diatribe and 4.) Pee Slow for making sure everybody in the locker room could identify his bits-and-pieces in a line-up….although we could all have done without the “balloon animals” routine!!
The theme of the post-3 a.m. after party was how to stop the bleeding and start winning a few games. Many good ideas were thrown around and further discussions will ensue (see the forum section in the coming days for some proposed line-up changes). Most importantly, we need to stop taking penalties…we are setting a bad tone in the league and we’re paying the price for it EVERY game!! Plus, having the bulk of the team there every week will be a necessity in order to get some numbers in the win column. Let’s Weevil up!!
