Old School Weevils Get Run by Ringers

Well, that says it all. We were missing quite a few skaters last night in the yearly matchup against the arch rival Ringers, but still played a good game. The Weevils that were able to weather the late start time showed up with grit and grind to take on the last place Ringers. It seemed from our bench that the opponent was able to muster up some actual spirit and excitement in playing the Weevs and showed up with their entire roster. Even though the game was scheduled at 11:15, we did not get started until 11:45pm. With fans in the stands and Teno on offense, we could not lose!
Although the Ringers struck first, capitalizing on their power play opportunity due to Myze’s first…. but not last penalty. We can say that we played the box very well, or at least Myze can say that as he took 3 more penalties during this game. A comment was made by Shrek to the refs to watch number 17 because he was kicking the bucket and screaming outragousness in his home. I guess changing his number didn’t help! Directly after the power play goal, the Ringers made a great play with three passes and a shot to beat Pee Slow on the far side. 2-0
The Weevils did not give up though, and Teno got our first one to go down with a great cherry picking opportunity that he made look sooo easy. Pinna also shelfed one receiving a great pass from Timmy V and beating the defense straight up. Even though our main defensive mastermind did not show, Sattora, MadCow, Diddle and Bmoore played exceedingly well, stopping many odd man rushes. Diddle all of the sudden starts shutting down ringers left and right taking the puck north to south in a desperate attempt to contribute to the team. Everyone was flabbergasted as they have never seen this type of play from him. “He must have rubbed up against me when we were changing lines and taken some of my mojo”, says Sattora in a post game interview.
We bring the game back within one due to a screaming backhand from Bmoore finding the back of the net. This one was also assisted by Timmy V! 4-3 In the final minutes of the game, we desperately try to tie it up with great passing and a pleathera of shots but to no avail. Pee Slow also makes some amazing Irbe type saves throughout the game to keep us in the position to re-stitch our egos. Great work by all, just falling a bit short. Next game is still at 11:15. Lets try to make it with bells on.
